For several years now, Brittany has been a must-see destination in spring and summer. Last year, the GR 34® or customs officers’ path was voted “France’s favourite long-distance footpath”. It offers more than 2000 kilometres of marked trails, steeped in the history of smuggling, salt and sea spray. From Mont-saint-Michel to the Saint-Nazaire Bridge, it winds along the fabulous Breton coastline.
Created in 1791, the trail was originally used by customs officers in charge of preventing smuggling, but also pillaging wrecks or tracking shipwreckers! Fallen into oblivion at the end of the 19th century, the trail was revived at the end of the 1960s when a few enthusiasts decided to mark it out to offer it to hikers from all over the world.
So, whether you are North Brittany, South Brittany, rocky points, wild coast, dunes or beaches and creeks, you will inevitably find the hike that is made for your desires of the moment and you will discover a succession of postcards that the world envies us in an authentic and preserved Brittany. If your legs ask for it, you can also opt for cycling, the bay of Mont-saint-Michel for example is an ideal destination!
