As we told you in our article Want a zero-carbon holiday? Dare to hike!, hiking is an eco-responsible holiday, which allows everyone to discover a little more of the landscapes that surround us. Of course, in order to make your adventure as environmentally friendly as possible, we have listed the good deeds that you can, or even must do.

First of all, respect the paths on which you walk, because if you walk off the already “marked out” paths you risk trampling on the vegetation without it being able to grow back afterwards.

In the same way, when you take paths with barriers, please close them, if they are present and closed it is surely due to the presence of animals.

Secondly, do not feed the animals you come across, even what may seem “harmless” to you may be harmful to them. Also avoid sudden movements in their presence, as well as shouting, you could frighten them.

Do not pick flowers or plants, as this is prohibited in some areas. Some species are protected, so it is important to respect this rule.

When you have the chance to visit a historical and/or cultural heritage, please do not damage or modify the site.

Use biodegradable products as much as possible, the aim being to minimize your impact on the environment as much as possible. For example, if you access a water point and want to swim in it, the simple fact of putting your sun cream previously spread on your skin in contact with the water is irreversible.

Still on the subject of water points, don’t wash yourself or your dishes there, take some water from a bottle and move away from the source.

Finally, it is obvious that you should not throw your rubbish in the wild, always have a plastic bag with you to store all your rubbish. If you are a smoker, take a pocket ashtray with you, butts should not end up on the ground. Don’t hesitate to pick up any garbage you find on your way, even if it’s not yours.
